What is a ger? A Ger is a traditional Mongolian house, it can provide comfort in a -30C winter and keep a family cool in summer.
In preparation for the upcoming winter and ferocious sub-zero temperatures, each of the current ger's need to be replaced and additional ger's built for the growing number of children in need of emergency shelter, care and protection.
The Foundation established the Blue Skies Ger Village for emergency accommodation for street children and those at high risk in Ulaanbaatar. The BSGV is on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar and is enclosed with a large 'Hasha' (fence), which helps create a community atmosphere. CNCF doctors and nurses visit several times per week, and a team of four managers, one a qualified doctor, are on-hand to advise, protect and nurture the children.
Each residential ger is staffed by a Ger Mother, often a single parent and/or formerly homeless herself, who creates a loving home for the children. She will be encouraged and helped in her role and should she wish to move on after her two years with CNCF, we will provide her with a ger of her own, from our Give-a-Ger Program.
