Mongol Rally The Adventurists
The Mongol Rally is an exciting and challenging annual event organised by the League of Adventurists. Teams set off from England, Spain and Italy in an attempt to drive between 8,000 and 10,000 miles across many borders with the final destination being Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This in itself is a task but the Adventurists insist on the engine being less than 1.2 litres with a fine to be paid if it exceeds this. Exceptions, however, are made if the vehicle has comedy value! In the past the Rally has featured a furry fire engine, a mini complete with red telephone box attached to the roof, a hearse, and a variety of ambulances. This year’s star turn threatens to be a cherry picker, which to the non-informed, is an aerial platform crane on a lorry!
The Rally isn’t just about adventure it is also about raising funds for charity and each team must raise a minimum of £1,000.00 for the nominated Mongol Rally charities, CNCF being one of these. Since 2006 all funds raised by the Mongol Rally in aid of CNCF have been used to support the running costs of the Blue Skies Ger Village in Ulaanbaatar and many teams, on reaching their destination, have taken the opportunity to visit the Village and describe it as one of the highlights of their trip.
