The Christina Noble Children's Foundation (CNCF) has operated in Mongolia since 1997, working with the poorest children and their families. The largest project is the Sponsorship Programme, by which children receive cash every month directly from foreign sponsors. This money is used to pay for necessities such as food, fuel and school uniforms. Many of the families CNCF supports are headed by single women, often with very difficult backgrounds resulting from the common social problems of unemployment and alcoholism. Surviving day-to-day is a great struggle, particularly in Mongolia's unforgiving climate.
