Last weekend 20 of our beautiful Sunshine Sponsorship Children were given an amazing opportunity to develop their creativity and explore their emotions through art, as they attended our most recent weekend art workshop. Expressing emotions through art is an entirely new concept to many of our Children, as traditionally visual arts do not play a central role in Mongolian culture. The Children used line and colour to capture and convey emotions, learning about the powerful benefits of art as a form of self-expression and emotional release. This is especially important for many of our children, as the vast majority have incredibly troubling backgrounds and no real avenues for positive emotional expression. |
After discussing with the class why they had chosen particular shapes and colours for each emotion (the children showed incredible confidence as they communicated their images with the group), our talented and deep young artists set to work applying these basic abstract art principles to creating some exciting and bold portraits of one another.
The children paired up and while one partner posed expressing an emotion such as happiness, excitement, anger or joy, the other child drew. To watch the children in full-flowing action was an incredible experience!
Once both partners had finished sketching each other, the children set to work breathing life into the portraits by using colours, shapes and symbols to communicate the feelings and emotions of the scene.
It was wonderful to watch such free and imaginative expression flowing from these incredible young minds and the finished pieces of work are truly captivating.
Thank you to The Sovereign Art Foundation for sponsoring our Arts & Music Programme and making these important days of imagination and self-expression possible for our truly gifted young people.
