Michael Naismith , one of CNCF’s long-time supporters, recently completed his Run for a Ger raising over $3200 to fund a Ger (traditional Mongolian house) in Mongolia. Despite never having run one before, Mike completed The Forrest Half Marathon Trail Run, combating steep hills and uneven ground to…
You can watch a video of Mike, dressed as He-man, practising for his half-marathon (and saving the odd damsel in distress) here:
That’s one Ger down, but we need your help to fund more!
Why not complete your own Run for a Ger? Raising $3000 individually or as part of a team is enough money to build a brand new, furnished home for homeless or orphaned children, helping them survive the -30 degree nights in Mongolia.
You can run any distance, for any event, anywhere you want!

What is a Ger?
Gers are the traditional round nomadic tents used in Mongolia for over a thousand years. They are robust and are usually well insulated in the cold, -30C winters by a double layer of thick felt, while remaining cool in the summer.
Currently we need to replace Gers in our Blue Skies Ger Village (BSGV) based in Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia.
CNCF established the Blue Skies Ger Village for emergency accommodation for street children and those at high risk in Ulaanbaatar. CNCF doctors and nurses visit several times per week, and a team of four managers, one a qualified doctor, are on-hand to advise, protect and nurture the children.
The current Gers are over 10 years old and well past their life span. Sagging frames and covers and many gaps will not protect them through the fierce upcoming winter. As well as replacing the existing Gers, additional Gers need to be built for the growing number of children in need of emergency shelter, care and protection.
So if you are up for this challenge, this is what to do next:
- Find a running challenge (it doesn’t have to be a marathon – even a 5k run will do!)
- Create a fundraising page on Everyday Hero
- Start your training & fundraising!
- Tell everyone about it.
