The first Virtual Ladies’ Long Lunch took place on Friday 9th October, connecting our global community across no fewer than 18 countries and 6 different time zones in a re-imagined version of this ever-popular fundraiser.
Previously held in person in Hong Kong, this legendary sell-out luncheon traditionally kicks off the celebrated Hong Kong Rugby 7’s weekend in true style. Not to be held back by COVID-19, the CNCF Events team leveraged virtual technology to raise HK$750,000 in just one hour, with an additional HK$100,000 raised in the week after, lifting the final total to an incredible HK$850,000.
Our generous supporters pledged almost HK$500,000 to CNCF’s core educational programmes, enabling us to protect children from abuse, exploitation, trafficking and violence by keeping them safe and in school. Specifically, this means we can provide approximately 580 children with junior education for a whole year. A further HK$93,600 was pledged to CNCF’s Child Sponsorship Programme, an area that has been severely impacted by COVID-19. As a result, we have been able to take 26 children off the waiting list for the next 12 months, providing them with much-needed access to education and basic necessities.
During the event, guests from around the world were able to meet CNCF’s inspirational children and hear their testimonials about the life-changing impact of the Foundation’s programmes. There may have been no Hong Kong 7s this year, but CNCF children and staff were able to join staunch supporters, Penguins International rugby team members in a fun game of virtual rugby – from Hong Kong to Vietnam, Mongolia, New Zealand, London and all the way to Seattle.
We even had a sprinkle of stardust from Hugh Bonneville, Ronan Keating and Hong Kong’s very own Hollywood success story, Bishop Briggs!
CNCF is grateful to this year’s gold sponsor Tanner De Witt for their support of Virtual LLL 2020.
